Rekey, do not replace
If a key is lost or you have just moved in, rekeying gets you the same outcome as new locks for a fraction of the price. We recommend it even though replacement pays better.
Fix the frame, not the lock
If forced entry is your worry, three-inch screws into the framing stud and a reinforced strike plate do more than any premium deadbolt — for a few dollars.
The door, not the hardware
A deadbolt that has become stiff is usually a door that has moved with the seasons. Adjustment costs a fraction of the replacement you were expecting to buy.
